A Restored Pratt Street
Through improved and restored retail storefronts, renovated residential spaces, and curated programming, Pratt St is being rediscovered.
My Wife Didn’t Cook is already a favorite of New Britain locals and is soon expanding to Hartford! Coming in early 2024 to Pratt Street, this husband-and-wife-owned business will surely be a new favorite. Offering high-quality, home-cooked meals, this team is sure to make you feel welcome. We chatted with the restaurant owner, Deivone, to learn more about their new location. Read on to hear more!
Q: Tell us about My Wife Didn’t Cook. For those that do not know, when did you start, and what do you offer?
A: My Wife Didn’t Cook is a husband-and-wife-owned casual dine-in restaurant we started in 2018. Not only are we known for our name, but we also offer a unique variety of comfort food from fried chicken to bbq ribs, fried shrimp, catfish, and everyone’s all-time favorite, our fried whiting! Our fresh homemade sides include mac & cheese, greens, and sweet yams. We can’t leave out our special sauces to dip or toss in, such as Henny, sweet chili, and jerk, to mention a few. Also, a very important aspect to us is our investment in the community and vision of bringing people of different walks of life together in a positive and fun atmosphere to share laughs, memories, and great food. We love to inspire.
Q: What makes your dishes stand out?
A: All our meats are fresh and cooked to order, and our sides are always made from scratch—even our fresh-cut french fries.
Q: What are you and your wife’s favorite dishes from your menu?
A: My favorite dish is fried whiting fish with potato salad and greens. My wife’s is the boneless jerk with potato salad and cabbage.
Q: Sounds like we need to try the potato salad! Our mouths are watering! When do you expect to open?
A: We aimed to have opened this summer, but our permits were delayed due to the extensive building in Hartford right now. Now we are looking to open in early 2024.
Q: We are so excited to welcome you to Pratt Street. What are you looking forward to when you are part of the Pratt Street community?
A: Besides the foot traffic and community events, we look forward to being a part of the revitalization. We look forward to bringing a unique twist to the Downtown atmosphere, bringing new ideas and fresh, quality food.
Q: Can you describe the future space to us? What can visitors expect?
A: A homey comfort experience to lounge in and enjoy the company you bring.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to share?
A: Thank you for the opportunity! We look forward to being a part of the economic development vision of Pratt Street and Hartford.
What a team! We cannot wait for My Wife Didn’t Cook to open! Stay up to date on their Pratt Street debut and other new businesses on @prattstreethartford.
