A Restored Pratt Street
Through improved and restored retail storefronts, renovated residential spaces, and curated programming, Pratt St is being rediscovered.
Hartford — Artists younger than 21 are being sought to participate in Amplify, a new monthly summertime open-mic series starting June 28 on Pratt Street in downtown Hartford.
“Providing opportunities for young artists to express themselves is the foundation to building an artist-rich community,” said Chip McCabe of the Hartford Business Improvement District, which is spearheading Amplify with hartford.com.
“There are only a handful of spaces in Connecticut where musicians, poets, and performance artists who are under the age of 21 can perform and hone their art in front of other people in a professional setting,” McCabe said. “We wanted to create a series that focuses on the youth who will grow into the next great generation of artists.”
Amplify sessions will be held on the last Tuesdays of each month — June 28, July 26, Aug. 30 and Sept. 27 — from 6 to 8 p.m. McCabe said each performer gets a maximum of 15 minutes.
Those interested in appearing can register at hartford.com/amplify. “Walk-ups” will be accommodated only if there is time left at the end of all the registered performers.
