One of Hartford’s most anticipated summer initiatives is back.

Pratt Street Sounds returned for its second year Friday, bringing vibrant energy, live music and community spirit to the heart of downtown.

The event kicked off with food, music and art, filling every corner of Pratt Street, as locals gathered to enjoy performances from musicians from across the state.

Molly Magowan is a Hartford resident and said that what makes the event so special is its accessibility and welcoming vibe for attendees of all ages.

“Wonderful, beautiful days like this, you get wonderful artists like Riley out here, and it’s a great show. My pup enjoys it, and we have a great time,” Magowan said. “For anyone, young, older, it’s a great, good spot. Pratt Street is just a great environment.”

The free weekly concert series is hosted by the Hartford Business Improvement District. Chip McCabe, BID’s director of Placemaking and Events, said the goal is not only to celebrate local talent but also families and culture.

“It’s a great feeling to bring art and community together on a beautiful street like Pratt Street in Hartford,” McCabe said. “Tonight, we have Americana folk. Next week, we’ll have hip-hop and R&B. It runs the gamut of as many genres as we can fit out here.”

With its blend of culture, cuisine and community, Pratt Street Sounds is becoming a summer favorite and bringing life to the area. McCabe says this helps support local businesses.

“There are so many great restaurants and bars on the street,” McCabe said. “You can come down, grab a meal, grab a drink, sit down and listen to some free music. It’s the perfect night.”

Pratt Street Sounds will run every Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. through September, offering a variety of music on a weekly basis this summer.
